What if... you spent the next 40 days walking alongside Jesus, visiting churches with Paul, traveling through the wilderness with Moses, fighting alongside King David and just falling more in love with God with each turning page?
You are hereby challenged to read through a section in the Bible in 40 days! Our prayer is that by the end of the section you’ll feel so spiritually full you’ll never want to live on empty again.
Why 40 Days?
Oftentimes when God wanted to prepare someone for his purposes, he took 40 days. Noah’s life was transformed by 40 days of rain. Moses was transformed by 40 days on Mount Sinai. The spies were transformed by 40 days in the Promised Land. David was transformed by Goliath’s 40-day challenge. Elijah was transformed when God gave him 40 days of strength from a single meal. The entire city of Nineveh was transformed when God gave the people 40 days to change. Jesus was empowered by 40 days in the wilderness. The disciples were transformed by 40 days with Jesus after his resurrection.
Another reason why 40 days is a good duration for this program is because it’s a short enough span of time to make it easily attainable, yet long enough to create a habit.
"Thanks but no thanks. I'll just read on my own."
I think it’s safe to assume that, in all honesty, we don’t read the Bible as much as we should. By signing up for the program, we can all encourage one another and hold one another accountable to gettin’ er done!
The feeling of accomplishment is awesome because this is hard! For most, the amount of reading is not what makes it difficult. It’s the spiritual warfare involved!
So, how does the program work?
Simple. Here are the steps:
Step 1. Scroll down and click on the link below titled "week 1". Print up the PDF document which will have the chapters that you read each day, along with some space to write down a thought or two per chapter.
This is not a Bible study. Rather, this is about meeting the goal of simply reading through the New Testament.
Step 2. Bring your notes from the previous week to church and have a quick meeting after service with your fellow reading partners to share your reading experience during the week. If you missed the start date, no worries. Just let our pastor know you started and he would be happy to hold you accountable by having a weekly conversation with you after service.
Step 3. Repeat steps one and two for five more weeks. That’s it!
"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work." – 2 Tim 3
"Blessed is the man whose … delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers!" – Psa 1:1-3
